Daddy Daycare Opening Sequence Analysis

The opening sequence of ’Daddy day-care’ also uses typical conventions of a comedy film, but with a modern approach. The film begins by setting the scene in a typical family home. This creates understanding of where the film is situated and where the action will take place .The audience is immediately introduced to a young boy who is carrying out his morning routine. However, the actions and movement of the character are preformed in a comical way. The body language of the boy is energetic so the audience read his emotions as contented and blissful. High key lighting emphasises the characters innocence and youthful nature, and projects that the film is a family comedy. This is accompanied by non diagetic sound, Jackson five’s well known hit ‘Walking on Sunshine’.
This adds an entertaining quality to the title sequence, and continues to engage the audience.
The use of sound effectively imitates the character going toilet, with the absence of visual images this becomes a humorous scene.
I think the opening sequence has been used for this particular film because it creates a strong sense of normality, so the films storyline is not revealed.
The title sequence continues by showing the young boy putting on his slippers, brushing his teeth and walking down stairs. I find it interesting how the camera angles represent the perspective of a child; along with capturing the pass of the child walking down stairs. For example a cut-in of children slippers emphasises the genre of the film, a family comedy. This suggests the film’s story line is based on a family.
The titles of the film appear consistently in the centre of the screen. The colour scheme is multicolored to project a childish and fun like aspect. The font used is also similar to a Childs handwriting, but remains readable. This suggests the film targets children but altogether is suitable for all. The opening title sequence can represent different groups of people.
The location of a house can relate to Families. However the humorous sound affects relates to all ages and enforces the idea that the film is a family comedy. The background music at the opening of the film may interest children in particular, and adds to the entertaining quality of the film.
‘Revolution Studios’ are a production company in which created ‘Daddy day-care’. They are an American production company and former chairman of Walt Disney Studios and 20th Century Fox. This is relevant as the well known organization acts as an influential company. Therefore the audience members are persuades to watch the film as a successful company is behind it.
The suitable audience for this film would be children, with the exception of teenagers and adults. This is initially because the title sequence immediately begins with a child, so there is a commonality.  However, the film includes two adult characters, which could suggest a mature storyline and adult themes. The audience remains interested throughout the title sequence because of its musical aspect. The background music is upbeat and fun and so engages the audience. I also think the use of sound affects effectively interest the audience because of its humorous quality.
